St. Anna's ESL and Amistad sin Fronteras

For the past few months, we at Open Sound New Orleans have been collaborating with the Latino Apostolate and ESL program at St. Anna's Episcopal Church on Esplanade Avenue to provide recording equipment and training in audio recording to ESL students. Jamie McDaniel, the ESL teacher and director of social services, and her students, have worked tirelessly to make and offer these recordings. Filter The Map and List For Their Interviews.

Their intent: "We are students from the English classes at St. Anna's Episcopal Church. Some of us also participate in the student-led group Amistad sin Fronteras (Friendship without Borders). Our purpose is to dedicate our time and energy to projects that help our community – service projects, Spanish-language education, social and cultural events, involvement with anti-racist groups, and other collaborations that help the voices of Latinos to be heard in our community. We have joined with Open Sound New Orleans so that others will understand better the life that we immigrants lead and the experiences we have had in New Orleans. We invite you to hear our interviews, our experiences, our stories – we believe that as you listen you will find something that will surprise you and we hope that you will enjoy them!"
